Name: Dissia Sma Gender: Female Age: 19
Species: Squirrel Occupation: Librarians assistant
Physical Appearance: A slender young squirrel wrapped in a trim coat of light grey, almost silvery fur with sparkling green eyes. She tends to wear a less formal tunic with a satchel permanently around her side. Sometimes it full of books, sometimes with obscure scrolls she dug from some attic, sometimes with assorted things she's found interesting. Her head is bare, except for the rotating collection of hand-made 'crowns' she makes for herself from twigs, leaves, string, and other bits and pieces she finds lying around.
Possessions: Her satchel aside, Dissia travels light. Her journal is ever-present, hanging from her tunics tie, and a half dozen feather quill pens stick from either her ear or one of her branch crowns. She carries a pot of ink in her satchel, a pair of colored marbles, and a key to the library, plus a key to some of the old, locked away corners of the cellars, where she often hunts for old pieces of parchment or scrolls.
Personality: Dissia could be described as a smirk given a body. She's cheeky, smug, and always talks like she knows exactly what she's talking about. She's thoroughly in love with trivia and finds dusty old tomes and historical texts to be the greatest sources of trivia, and she has a talent for applying to everyday life. Is a brother/sister wearing their habit in a certain way today? They're bound to be informed about how some obscure abbess wore it the same way whenever she was hiding a secret, and inquired if they too have something to hide, and what is it? She has boundless curiosity and enthusiasm to share that curiosity with the world, whether the world cares to hear it or not. To this end she's rather tone deaf, and doesn't always understand when her prattle isn't wanted.
Strengths:
- A quick and accurate writer, there's probably no better detail-orientated note taker in the abbey.
- She's good at keeping track of things, from the clutter of thoughts that makes up her mind to a pile of books and scrolls scattered across a table.
- A good climber, as squirrels tend to be, though a bit better than other abbey squirrels on account of her exploring the rafters and attics, hunting for secret caches of books, hidden rooms, and other pieces of Redwall history.
Weaknesses:
- She see's what she wants to see much of the time, when others have differing views she gets frustrated and irritated because she can only see them as simply wrong.
- She's single-minded and rarely takes context or consequences into more than cursory account.
History: Life in Mossflower can be harsh, it was for Dissia's parents. She was left at the gates of Redwall before she could speak, and raised there with other orphans. Never having known her real parents and being raised among a colorful band of adventurous dibbuns, she considers multiple Redwallers to be her 'parents', and is at peace with not knowing her blood family. Her own origins being somewhat of a mystery for herself however lead to her developing an interest in history, and uncovering pieces of knowledge otherwise unknown.
This curiosity lead to some degree of trouble for herself, as a desire to learn more and more obscure information lead her to following some strange tails, and even taking a few risks, climbing old rafters in the abandoned sections of Redwall's attics to hunt for dusty boxes of books and locked chambers. This was officially stopped after she fell through a patch of rotted ceiling and scared the fur off of the librarian when she landed on his desk, though she still makes the occasional venture upwards. Less frequent are her excursions outside the walls to find and talk to birds in the trees, assuming that beasts used to flying over others would have some great bits of unknown information to offer, after a magpie nearly took her ear off.
Getting increasingly tired with her prodding and prying, she was offered a position helping the librarian sort, categorize, and label the heaps of tomes and volumes stored within Redwall's vast cellars. Absorbed to the extreme, she vanished from sight almost entirely as she went from scampering through attics to burrowing into the labyrinth of underground passages, storage rooms, cellars, and forgotten corners beneath the Abbey, sometimes camping there for days with an lamp and oil as she immersed herself in the walls steeped with lost knowledge. Lately she's become more active above the abbey, recording more of the comings and goings of daily life, along with any little notes she finds interesting.
Relationships: Her best friend, Yemmy the hedgehog, is a chefs assistant in the kitchens, and occasionally sneaks her candies and cordials for her 'dives' into the belly of Redwall.
