As it turned out, the Patrol hares had already left by the time Hafi wandered in, or as was explained to him by the cheerful mole who'd been sitting next to Cordin.
Fair enough -- the meeting place had been arranged before lunch, anyways. Hafi wasn't much for eating -- though one could certainly be fooled by his size, he preferred a cup of tea and was known to have beasts pushing food at him when they thought he hadn't had enough. He picked up a few slices of savory bread instead and had them all packed away within the first minute or so away from the dining table; somehow coming into a meeting shoving food in his mouth didn't strike him as the best way to make an appearance.
He knew Redwall like the back of his paw, and he found his way to the door off the grounds with plenty of time to spare. The Abbess would undoubtedly be there already; she was still new to the job, still anxious to make a good impression, at least as far as Hafi could tell. Of course nobody in Redwall doubted her at all, but Hafi remembered how anxious he'd been when he'd become champion of all things -- something he had to work through to the point where he was now. And down the stairs, Bardineta was indeed there, with Ripley and Cordin standing just before her.
"Abbess," Hafi said cheerfully. "The Long Patrol hares here to meet you. Private Ripley, and Corporal Cordin," he added, motioning to each of them in turn.
